32" with 3 Scarts...

Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum (if so, could admin move to correct forum).

I bought at Sony 32FQ75 4 years ago. Being 'prudent', I took out a 5 year warranty with the now defunct Powerhouse. The warranty provider is Serviceplus, who I am now in dispute with.

The 32FQ75 has ceased to work and it has been deemed uneconomical to repair. Under the warranty, Serviceplan are obliged to offer a replacement TV of a similar spec. They have offered me the 32" Samsung HD CRT.

I do not consider the Samsung 32" HD to be of a similar spec. It only has 2 SCARTS, while my Sony TV has 3 Scarts. I have 3 sources, so this is vital. Furthermore, the Sony tube is far superior to the Samsung tube.

Serviceplan are also demanding I contribute 40% of the cost of the Samsung TV to take account of the sony TV's 'wear and tear'. I have read the contract and its deliberatly ambiguous on this point. I interpreted this section as wear and tear would come off the price of the old TV. My sony TV cost me £900. Applying the discount, I would say the Sony TV would now be valued circa £500. Im actually disgusted that they want to (i) replace my Sony with an inferior Samsung that costs half the price; and (ii) demand I pay £200 towards the price of the Samsung.

I have written to them and are not budging on their offer. Its nonsense.

Does anyone know where I can get a high sepc 32" CRT in similar spec to the Sony 32FQ75?

Anyone got any advice re Serviceplus?

Thanks,
litkid

Re: 32" with 3 Scarts...

The Samsung is available at under £400 so the insurance is only going to payout less than £200 after your contribution. Seems very mean to me. Hardly worth taking out the policy once you take the premiums into consideration.
Is the company called Serviceplan or Serviceplus and where are they based?
I've had cover on my 32" for a few years and have had to call on them once before for a major repair which came to about £20 less than the cost of a replacement TV. I was p*ssed because I would have rather had a new set.

Many 32" JVC's come with 3 scarts.

Re: 32" with 3 Scarts...

This one would probably be your best bet...

Jvc HV32D40BK

Not only does it have 3 scarts but it also has a Freeview Tuner & component inputs which do progressive scan & also if it's anything like my older JVC will do HD @ 1080i over the component connection.

I also wouldnt budge on their offer, that seems like a complete rip to me & deffinitley what you have paid the extra warranty for.

Let us know how you get on.
