Hi all,

Good to find a busy forum devoted to all things AV!

I have a feeling this has been done to death and have searched the forums for these requirements, but what are the recommendations out there for a 32 inch widescreen with Nicam and 100Hz processing?

The Sony FQ75 was top of my list until read THE thread!

What would good alternatives be? I would budget up to around £1300.

Don't know if this will help, but regardless of all the talk on here, i went out and bought a 32FQ75, and what a great tele it is.
Luckily it doesn't suffer the scrolling bar syndrome.
But out of the box the geometry, convergence and the focus in the corners are terrible. I've managed to fix the geometry problems to an extent and i'm still playing with it. Oh i've had the t.v. for a week now.
Hopefully i'll get the convergence fixed soon, just got to play with the service menu a bit more. If that doesn't work i'm going to call in a specialist to open the back and fiddle around to get it fixed.
Probably not to much help, but the sony- when working- can be a great t.v.

What about the Panasonic PL10 or Philips 6566 anyone?

We have had the tx28pl10 for nearly 2 weeks now (know you`re interested in 32") & haven`t had any major problems at all - even though some people have. It looks lovely, dvd films look beautiful, good remote control - sound is fine for us - we just wanted a good quality picture, etc. Am really quite pleased - but there are still people who have had problems - the Panasonic tx32pl1 (only 50Hz) came out as best 32" nicam set in Junes What Video & Tv. What I`ve heard about some Philips sets have put me off completely - hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the reply. What problems have there been with the Philips? I've always found them to be a sound manufacturer.

The difficulty I'm having is separating the problems that people have between consistent ones and 'fixed when replaced' ones.

It also sounds as if a problem as been reported with just about every TV available. Whats a guy to do

It is so difficult choosing a tv - it does seem that you have to decide what you can put up with - but some makes do seem to have a lot wrong. I thought Philips were very reliable, but after reading things about certain models on these forums, (using Panasonic tubes instead of Philips, etc) I would be very wary. Just do a search on philips, & have a read. A lot of people have problems with the pl10, I could in the future, who knows - once you`ve had a tv with problems, I think you will always be on the lookout for things to go wrong - maybe just go with your instinct, & buy the tv from John Lewis or somewhere, as a backup if things do go wrong - but certainly have a good read up before you buy.

Before ya do consider the Panny TX32 PK20. I bought mine just over a year ago from BOS electronics. It has picture quality that I have not yet seen beaten in a 32" model (its only Nicam - but who cares if your running it with a seperate sound system)

Check out the Reviews from HCC & What Hifi. It won hands down on the piccy, and doesnt seem to suffer from artifacting.

The PL1 got a good review in the June issue of What Video & TV. I think its going to be either the PL1 or a Philips 6515.

Before this forum it was all so simple, but now this is turning into a nightmare. I haven't got a clue whether to just go for one and see if I run into the same probs as others or not

Only purchase if you like wavy pictures (i.e. as the camera pans across the screen, the picture looks like it's floating in the sea), bent geometry all over the place, large cracking noises coming from the set throughout the entire period that it's turned on, blurred focus in each of the four corner quadrants .......

Sounds was really good though
