Toshiba, Thomson and JVC

Hi

I've recently found three CRT PureFlat TV's for sale that have caught my eye, but I'm wondering if it's worth spending the extra to get one of the better two or spending less on the cheaper unit.

The ones I've found (no model numbers I'm afraid) are:

Thomson 28" Widescreen PureFlat - £199.99 (Argos)

JVC 28" Widescreen PureFlat (in Black, seems like a common model between some shops if it helps, also available in silver) - £254.99 (Co-Op)

Toshiba 28" Widescreen PureFlat - £269.99 (Co-Op)

Any suggestions? Are Thomson actually any good? My Dad said they make some pretty good quality products but am I really going to gain any noticable difference with the other two over the Thomson?

Any help is very much appreciated

You really need the model names to be able to compare. Look at what features they offer and what best suits you. Also you may wish to consider buying a second hand TV from the for sale forums here, there are always some bargains especially on CRT's. At those prices you could get a VERY nice 28" or 32" TV.

My 28" JVC DIST television which is about a year old and scales all inputs to 1125i and accepts pal and ntsc progressive and 1080i signals will be going up soon, in your price range, and would certainly provide a better picture than the models you've mentioned so far.

Thanks for that

The other thing bugging me is the number of models like these that only appear to be 50Hz, I thought most were capable of displaying 60Hz these day?

I'll do my best to get the model numbers, but I saw both the Toshiba and the JVC in the shop and they both seem quite good, although one was playing a DVD, the other a split Sky single, but overall seemed quite good.

The Toshiba appeals to me more tho as the speakers are on the bottom not the sides, meaning its not as wide, meaning it'll fit ontop of my cabinet better.
Thats why I can't have ANYTHING bigger than a 28" Widescreen, because it simply wont fit

Bare in mind I'm a bit of a newbie to this, so the whole scaling inputs and stuff doesn't mean loads to me, I have a rough idea but thats about it.

pretty much all tv will be capable of 60hz through its external inputs, its just that they're marketed as 50hz as thats the UK's refresh rate.
