Toshibz 32ZP38B: Dreaded c.2year Fault!

Bought a Toshiba 32ZP38B from John Lewis in Jan 2004. Came with a free 5 year guarantee.

Picture started flicking a couple of nights ago. Checked the leads etc. Eventually picture settled but problem returned each time set was switched on.

Today the screen went multi-coloured fault lines, then set switched off. Left it a few minutes, then tried again. Same result.

Rang John Lewis. They will contact a Sevice Engineer Monday (its Friday night now), then we will have to agree a day/time. With World Cup not far off I'm not too pleased.

Thought I would check on the internet. Arrived at this site. Was gobsmacked to see how common this problem is around the two year point.

Hope any repair is long lasting, although I have seen a couple of posts on here where the same fault re-occured not long after the first repair.

Would be interested to hear from any of you who had this fault and then had their set repaired: how is your set performing since repair?

I suppose the good thing is, at least the service engineers, when they speak to Toshiba will know exactly what parts to replace!

The exact same problem has just happened with mine. Spoke to a local engineer who seemed to know all about it and quoted c £170 to fix it. Would be interested to know if this fix works as would like to avoid spending £2000 on a new 42" HD LCD job (well I wouldn'd mind but my wife wouldn't be to happy !!).

Interestingly I have had a couple of people advise me to replace rather than fix - could be hocum though. Wait any responses with interest.

You shouldn't need to pay that.
Toshiba will supply you with the module for free if your set is only a couple of years old leaving you to pay the £70 labour for your local engineer to fit it.

Phone Toshiba customer services and have your model and serial nos and date of purchase to hand.
Complain gently that a TV of the calibre of Toshiba should last longer than x years.
Tell them a local engineer has said there is a faulty "Scan converter module" in your set.
