Magnetic damage

Without thinking I placed a set of stero speakers next to my televison. The magnetic field from them seems to have damaged the tv. It now has large green spots on the sides of the screen where the speakers were at. I've found that if I rotate the speakers I can acctually correct the problem temporarily. If I move the speakers away from the tv it comes back though.

What exactly has happened to the TV, and is there a permenant way to correct the problem?

Turn it off at the mains overnight (actually unplug it from the mains) turn it on in the morning (or after approx 30mins) and if it's a recent set it should automatically degaus which should resolve your problem

You may need to switch on from cold several times before it clears completely.

If that doesn't do the trick, then it will need a technician with a de-gaussing coil.

The good news is that it is extremely unlikely that you've done permanent damage.
