HELP !! ,RGB or Y/C ?

Problem - I have a Philips IDTV which has 2 Scarts - the first is RGB and must be used for a VCR (I presume because the digital signal is sent as RGB ?), the second is Y/C and can be for a decoder/dvd etc.

Now, my Vcr has Y/C input/output , or composite, but is not RGB compatible - is there a converter of some sort I can get to convert RGB to y/c and back again , so I can record and playback a better signal than composite ?

ALL HELP APPRECIATED !!

Your can't go straight from RGB to composite, you need to convert to S-Video first, so your gonna need four convertors.

See the attached diagram.

Cheers

Alternatively, you could just swap the leads into the back of the set. VCR does not need RGB, DVD does.

But you knew that didn't you???

Hi Laurel,

Unfortunately , I can`t swap the connections - if I want to tape a digital channel , the ONLY output is via SCART 1 (the rgb scart) -
only the analogue channels are available on SCART 2.

What I want to do is convert RGB to Y/C (s-video) - the vcr is a JVC DVHS model - so the idea of having to tape and replay composite signals doesn`t appeal !!.

I have another set hooked up to a set top box ( terrestrial - Pace)which is no problem, as the box outputs an s-video signal straight into the vcr. I suppose I could get another set top box and not use the internal decoder in the TV - but there must be a better way !

Sorry tiberious

I was joking with the diagram!

I thought you were playing the fool for a minute. I didn't realise you had a DVHS recorder!

I now see what you are trying to do.

You can get an RGB to S-Video convertor to sit between the TV and VCR which should do the trick. Try http://www.lektropacks.co.uk/

There you go mate:

http://www.lektropacks.co.uk/acatalog/rgb-s.html

Just what you want (I think )

50 smackers.

Not bad. Twin outputs and time base corrector thrown in (will defeat Macrovision).

Cheers

Laurel

PS. No I don't work for them - before anybody asks.

I'm sorry - who are you? I do not know you.

You must be mistaking me for another Laurel.

PS. Did you opt for the gold plated microwave cable in the end? It will definitely give a better sound.

laurel,

Not the gold plated one, we have silver door handles and it wouldn't have matched, got the 99p version, he said it would do the same job, if not better.......
