Is the Sony 36 zp48 out of date?

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to TV having only ever onwed one, a matsui I bought 9 years ago. I've spent hours on here (great site and very grateful) and have decided to go for CRT. I'm not convinced by LCD picture quality.

I have spent hours googling and reading on here, and I keep on going back to the Sony 36ZP48. I can buy it for under £1100. I love the speakers and teh way it looks and all teh positive reviews but can't find a comparable set in other makes.

Is it now outdated? I notice it does not have freeview.

I have £1K to spend.

I've just noticed the 36zp48 has been discontinued.

Can't find the 36 hq 100 for sale anywhere. I seem to be struggling to find a recently manufactured decent 36" crt.

After hours of research I'm totally prejudiced against LCD because I've got this idea in my head the crt is more reliable and has a better quality picture. Perhaps I should reconsider on the LCD

I think you'll find that most (all?) 36 inch CRT TV's have been discontinued.

The good news is that if you can find one, it should be a bargain because the supplier will want to clear his old stock.

Good luck.

Tosh tragedy

Unbelievably,my 18 month old 36 zp46p has just been 'written-off' through no fault of my own. i have been given a settlement but intend to sit on my hands for a while until the price of those shiney new flat panels comes down.
In retrospect i wouldn't recommend a large widesreen crt simply because they take up too much room. Also i am amazed by just how outdated they now look.
Yes,flat panel is now the way to go.

Oudated? I think not!

So a flat panel takes up no room-but where does the Decoder, VCR,DVD-R,Amp,DVD etc etc all go?? I'll stick with my HQ100 and it's superb pic quality until HD is being broadcast thanks!

My dad has the model down to the toshiba 36zp48, had it some time now and its been great. Only problem with it is that when the screen desplayed a black picture the side are the screen show a light black colour. Supose it must be a manufacturing fault or design.
