Broken TV

I have an old United 32" TV, do not now the model make. When I say old I mean it's not HD, probably around 4-5 years old. It was big and cheap and I was young and poor so we seemed like a perfect match. Now recently when i was turning it on it just didn't. The indicator light on the telly didn't turn on (I didn't use the remote to turn it, the button on the TV itself). So I figured to check if the power button was broken or wiring was busted or something. It all seemed okay, I measured electricity going in on the power button worked and the safety wasn't broken (you call it safety right? the small piece of glass with a wire through that snaps when something goes wrong).

So is the TV busted, should I just throw it out ( I plan to get a Plasma) or might I fix it for use as an bedroom TV or give it to someone? What might be the problem here?
