Hi guys

connected dvd player with brand new Philips 32'' CRT tv via high quality S-Video cable.
The input signal appears in black and white
No configurations available for s-video on neither dvd player nor tv
Normal composite signal with usual cable is ok
On dealers dvd-tv set with the same cable, the picture appears in color!

any ideas?

The usual cause for this is a broken or bent pin on one of the plugs, but if you have tested the cable, then it can only be a bad connection on the chroma pin on either the DVD player or the TV, or a fault in one of them.

I used to get this with my Sharp CRT.
To get round it you just had to select the source on the TV again.
For example AV1,AV2, S-Video etc.
On selecting S-video it would be in Black & White, selecting S-video again made it colour!

What's the TV model no?
Is it plugged in to an S-Video socket on the TV or are you using an S-Video to Scart lead or adapter?

its plugged with s-video to s-video cable directly, from s-video sockets, no adapters or anything

the model is Philips 32PW6451

On my JVC theres a setting for each AV channel to set it to accept an S-Video signal, if this isnt set it comes up black and white.

Using the remote's input button select the E2 Y/C input and if you have another piece of equipment connected to the EXT2 scart make sure it is switched off.

I just downloaded the manual (all 5 MB of it), and there's no mention at all of the s-video socket. I think this little venture has just reminded me why I don't buy Philips wherever possible.

No luck yet guys, I cant figure out what the problem is

Do you think its worth trying an s-video to scart converter? Does the quality degrade after the conversion? Note that simple composite output works ok, so I'll use that as a last resort.
