Calibrating a TV / Settings correct levels

I've wondered for a while now.. What's the best procedure for calibrating a standard (Toshiba 28" Widescreen 100Hz Flat) CRT TV in terms of brightness, contrast, colour, etc, and setting the levels correctly?

I don't have any calibration disks.

I know there's "just change the levels until you feel it's a decent picture".. I'm just wondering if there's a special way.. Much like setting all your speakers to 0db?

Cheers

The "special way" is to use a calibration disk.

However, unless you know what you're doing, you could make things worse.

There's also the problem of ending up looking for faults when you should be enjoying the programme.

So, unless you have an obvious mal-adjustment, think carefully before you go down that road!

Good luck.

Why not use the THX calibration on any of the Star Wars discs. That's all I used and it does a great job
