HDTV FAQ/Resources. Got a question? Check here first.

The purpose of this thread is to provide readers with a quick reference to very useful HDTV information.
If you think a post or thread contains relevant information, please post a link here & it will be included in this FAQ. The details will be collated regularly & the FAQ updated.

One of the most important threads here:
Video Piracy IS ILLEGAL.

...so no requesting illegally obtained copyright material or information on how to obtain such material.

Also be aware that there is now a dedicated Sky HD forum located here:
SKY HD

Some interesting reading....

Is 1080p really important?
What is really HDMI Hi def component, perplexing?
Optimum screen size/viewing distance

BBC HD: Freeview
BBC HD: Sat
BBC HD Sat: DVB-S/DVB-S2/requirements etc.
BBC HD Test

More pertinent threads/links will be added to, hopefully, build a very useful resource for HDTV information.

How about adding a minimum or recommended pc spec to this section for viewing HDTV?

Clint.

Software on Philips TV-determine if HD Ready

An e mail request to Philips to determine if my TV was HD ready advised me to
press 123654 on the remote to see what the software was

If it was 2.0 or above it is HD ready

If below 2 it is not.

Done this on both tvs-there appears 8 different lines but none specific to identify spft ware or the number 2

Anyone outhere know what I should be looking fort.

Re: HDTV FAQ/Resources. Got a question? Check here first.

Hi folks i'm looking at two lcd's both Sony KDL46w2000 and KDL46x2000. Been told at the sony shop that the 'W' is better than the 'X'. I'm concerned they are trying to get rid of old stock to make room for the 'X'. I think there is a £600 difference the 'X' being the more expensive. Any ideas?
