Toshiba TV switching off

Toshiba TV switching off

A friend has a Toshiba TV which switches itself off and his Liteon dvd recorder goes off also. The two happen together and he isn't sure if he may have to switch a setting or whether he has an intermittent power failure.
He is sure the tv is ok when the dvd is off, any clues?
