HD Ready CRTs the Verdict?

What does the forum think of CRTs claiming to be HD Ready? Is this the last gasp of an obsolete technology, or a quality and viable alternative to LCD?

Some CRTs obviously are HD-ready. They have component inputs and can easily do 720p. Some can do 1080p as well.
And CRT is better quality than LCD. So they are likely not empty claims.
The Xbox 360 running at 720p looks awesome on a 7 foot screen.

Are there any "HD Ready" - in the EICTA officially licensed use of the HD Ready logo sense of the phrase - CRT sets on sale yet?

I was aware that there were 1080/60i and 720/60p input capable (though the 720p is usually converted prior to display) CRTs on sale in the US, and 1080/50i (but not 720/50p) input capable displays on sale in the UK (and Aus - where 1080/50i and 576/50p are broadcast).

However I wasn't aware that there were CRT sets that fulfilled all the EICTA "HD Ready" criteria on-sale yet (apart possibly from CRT 3 tube projectors)

I haven't seen any CRT direct-view sets with :
1. DVI+HDCP or HDMI+HDCP digital inputs as well as HD analogue component
2. 1080/50i, 1080/60i, 720/50p and 720/60p input compatibility.

Are there any yet? (Are there ever going to be any?)

I always thought that I would go for a HD CRT if any ever came available but after seeing a quality, well set up LCD in action I changed my mind.
I have yet to see a HD Ready CRT and doubt that I ever will.

The only CRT that Ive seen which mentions HD is the Samsung Slimfit which I had for a few weeks. It was sold as HDTV/HD Compatible. It accepted a 1080i/50 signal. I assume that as Sky will output at 720p 1080i you will be able to watch Sky HD via component on it? The question is how goos will the picture be? I assume the picture will be downscaled but to what? How good will the picture be? I assume if its better than Sky HD then you can argue that it is a form of HD?
