HDMI over cat5!!

This looks interesting read on.

So you run into the issue that 16 feet of HDMI just isn't enough eh ? Well i've got news for you !

Intelix, a construction grade AV company, just announced its HDMI over Cat 5 ethernet transmitter. The device can transmit 1920x1200 signals up to a distance of 150 feet using a single transmitter/reciever set. The device actually uses a set of two cables, one for the video feed and one for the DDC (audio) feed -- so technically one could demux the two signals into two separate devices.

All for the low, low price of $559.95 direct from the Intelix website.

Hello both

HDMI cables are available up to 75' (23m)* and never had to use a Signal amp with one of them - see http://www.bettercables.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=114

*There is also a 105' (32m) version of this cable available.

HDMI 'extenders' has been available for a fair while - Gefen have three options:

Cable extender - see http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=2225

HDMI over CAT5 up to 150' (45m) - see http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=2225

HDMI over Fibre up to 330' (100m) - see http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=2484

These are all available with UK power supplies and CE marked.

Best regards

Joe

Re: HDMI over cat5!!

I set up with a Cat5e extender to push my HD video across a large room. Got it to work for Blue Ray disks off a playstation at 1020i (intermittent on 1020p) but not for HD satellite receiver at 1020i - Any ideas why that is so?

Re: HDMI over cat5!!

Hello Medleyp

Things have moved on a fair bit since 2006 - though as you have found out there are still problems to be ironed out.

What extenders are you using - they are very definitely not all created equal!

We get a lot of enquires from folk who are having problems at 1080p due to HDCP and EDID problems over extenders - we sort most out with our Octava units; HDMI Ethernet extender. Transmit 1080i HDMI to 300ft

HDMI over Fibre is a great solution for some - though a bit pricey for many. We've expecting out first batch of stock from NeoPro any day now - NeoPro » NeoPro Introduces Fiber Optic Product Line
