HD Newbie Question

Hi All,

I have a Panasonic DVDS97 DVD player which has a HDMI socket and I am considering upgrading my Sony CRT TV to a Pioneer PDP436XDE Plasma.

If I do this will I see a big improvement in picture quality with my current DVD collection or do the discs have to be HD.

Sorry for what is probably a stupid question.

Well you won't see a huge difference, but they will definately look sweet on a plasma. The problem is that the DVD format itself is quite old and starting showing its age. When HD movies come out, you will see a big difference.
If you get a nice plasma, an HDMI DVD player is the best way to watch DVDs on it, till we get proper HD movies.

I saw King Arthur on my Samsung LE32R51 last night from a Philips 5900 HDMI player and i think that was the best SD picture i saw since i got the set. Stunning. At times i was thinking "i wonder if HD will make this look that much different" cause it really looked fabulous.

I really can't wait for HD movies, even though i hope i'll see a big big improvement, it's getting harder and harder to justify this constant stream of cash from my wallet to various retailers here and there......

I'm hopeful SkyHD will be worth it. The HD demos i've tried from my PC looked stunning.
