Component Query

I have a Xbox, Xbox 360 and hopefully a Telewest TVDrive soon. My TV only has a DVI connection but can accept DVI, VGA, HDMI and Component with the right adaptors.

Since I have 3 HD devices and only one HD input I need some kind of splitter box. I've narrowed it down to Component, since the Xboxs dont have HDMI and the HDMI splitter boxes I've seen are pretty expensive!

Now I've found some 3 way splitter boxes : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-COMPONENT-...QQcmdZViewItem

Will these boxes degrade quailty at all? if so, got a link to a better one? and is component that much inferor to HDMI? bear inmind we're only talking about a £800 32" HDTV not some 50" £2500+ jobbie.

Thanks

Can I suugest the b-tech component splitter from tvcables.co.uk or keene electronics.

I have one and its superb - remote control and fully hd ready - £60

Well worth the investment. The one you linked to is not suitable for hd I believe and uses really cheap cable for the final link.

I can attest to the brilliance of the b-tech, but its only my opinion - good luck.

I'll look into that, £70 is pretty expensive. Can anyone confirm that the cheapy ones will reduce quailty?

Hello DynaMight

You really need to try out these units in your own system to assess how much or little signal degradation takes place - you also have to consider any future plans for upgrading your Display and any emphasis on HD over SD.

HDMI is simply a Digital connectivity standard - its pretty much the same video signal you transmit over HDMI that you transmit over your analogue 'Component' cable.

Zektor produce well designed, detailed and specified 'Home Theatre' video switching and distribution solutions - though your not going to like the price

The NEW HDS4.1 (UK SRP 199.95) is a 4.1 Analogue switcher and as you'll see Zektor actually publish the important Tech Specs - if nothing else use the Zektor Specs as a guide to what you should be looking for from lower cost units; see http://www.zektor.com/hds41/index.html

Best regards

Joe
