Post HDTV - Which one should I buy??

Dear All,
I got my xbox360 a couple of weeks ago and I want to buy a HDTV asap. I have been doing lots of research and I came to the idea the new Philips 37PF9830 was the TV I needed as this would produce 1080p and it was one of only 3 HDTV's on the UK market that could handle this, I guess I was trying to find something I would have for a long time. After spending lots more time looking around I am kind of coming around to the idea that I may be better off buying a HDTV that doesn't have this capability, save myself a bit of money and then in a couple of years we should have alot more choice available and I can then upgrade to a new model that does 1080p.

My question is do you people here think this is the way to go or should I just buy the Philips? Also if you think its a good idea to get one that isn't 1080p capable as there is just no point yet, then can you recommend which HDTV I should go for as there seems to just be so much choice availble. We are avid film and sport watchers and I love my games. Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Cheers
lbart

Depends what you want and what you have to spend. I didn't have a great deal of money to spend and was after a large screen. I decided to go for a sony 50" LCD rear projection tv as it has excellent contrast and is great for gaming.

If you are shy of space or have a bundle of money go for an lcd tv. I wouldn't go for a plasma if you are into gaming as they are prone to screen burn from the static life bars etc on video games.

I wouldn't bother with 1080p, you won't really see any difference on something around 37" anyway compared with 720p, at least most laypeople wouldn't. Besides they are very rare and very expensive.

It all depends on what money you have and what you are after!

many thanks for your response
just to answer some of your questions - I definately want to go for an LCD upto 42" but would settle for 37" and if I didnt go for the Phillips then I would be looking to spend upto 1,800.

it is worth going to a local panny, sevenoaks or sony centre and sussing things out. Avoid DSG in store, but they are worth shopping at online with the various discount vouchers that exist, can save you a small fortune.
