xbox 360 vga dvi-i confused!

hi guys, wondering if you could help me. I have just purchased a vga cable on which i want to run my xbox 360 on my philips 26pf3320 hd tv. this only has a dvi-i connection. So 've bought myself a belkin dvi-i male to vga female adaptor and plugged everything in.
However, when i switch the 360 on i get a message saying 'video mode not supported'.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what im doing wrong?
many thanks

I also have an xbox 360 with VGA output connected to this TV via a VGA to DVI convertor. I managed to get this setup to work once, but it seems a fluke as all I get now is "Video Mode unsupported". It's pity the OP didn't share their solution. Does anyone know how to get around this.

Yesterday I thought I had cracked it -- when I connected everything up and switched the TV to PC input it briefly put up a blank screen before automatically switching over to "PC A", or something similar (A for analogue I presume?). Today it's back to normality -- the TV just reports "Unsupported video mode" when switched to PC input, with no changes to the setup since yesterday.

I suspect this is an EDID issue. AIUI when the 360 is connected to a VGA monitor using the VGA cable it has a "quick chat" via a data line to/from the monitor and asks for the EDID info from the monitor - which tells the 360 what refresh rates and resolutions the monitor supports.

I suspect this means that your display has to be switched on AND in PC input mode prior to powering up the 360 for the 360 to be able to correctly talk to the TV and get EDID info - assuming this is passed via the analogue DVI-I to VGA adaptor.

I may be wrong on this - but AIUI this is how the 360 only offers display modes that the display supports - and if it can't work out what the display supports it isn't happy?

Re: xbox 360 vga dvi-i confused!

Hi, the problem you have that you seem to have fixed that some other people are worrying about is that when you turn everything on (360/TV) it says video mode not supported. All this means is that the 360 vga settings are for a resolution that the lcd doesnt support. The easiest way to fix this is to turn the tv on, then turn the xbox on with no disk in the drive, press the left analogue stick right 4 times after a wait of about 10 seconds or so then press a. Then press a again, and wait 2 seconds, and then press a again and then press up on the left analogue stick and hold it for a second or 2 and then press a. The screen should kind of flicker for a second and then you should be sorted at 640x480 resolution. If this fails try it a few more times, you'll get it one time or another.
Hope this helps.
