Forget HDTV look at HVD!

I was doing my usual surfing today at work and i came across this http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/02...iance_founded/ .
I still have a CRT which can't even do HDTV!

What does anyone think of this?

Cool, it was coming along for quite a long time and I am sort of happy about it as I believe that these guys fighting over blueray and HD DVD need a wake up call that thier technology can be squashed within a year or two by a better option. It has happened before (where are minidisks today?) and we could be looking at a situation where it will happen again.

Just what we needed - another format war brewing before the HD-DVD v. Blu-Ray has even properly started.

Does sound like it might be a killer for both or them, though - if the costs can be brought down. At $15,000 for a player and $120 for a disc, it might not be right up there in competition for the mass market.

The article is a year old and the proposal isn't being put to ISO until the end of this year so I wouldn't get excited just yet.

There have been several similar ideas in the last 3 or 4 years that have come to nothing. Does anyone remember FMD from C3D? That was supposed to store lots of gigabytes on a see through plastic disc but it never became reality.
