Smile Philips 50PF9967D

Has anyone read any reviews or have one of these TV's? Costco will be selling this TV for around £2400 inc VAT in a few weeks and I was thinking of getting one to upgrade my existing LG 42RZPX11.

It does sound like a really good TV.

anyone?

also, is there any point in upgrading my existing TV as I don't have any HD source. I currently use NTL and a Pioneer DV-525 dvd player.

I was interested how it compared to other 50inch plasmas and on paper it seems good, tough I haven’t seen it in person.

Philips 50PF9967D
Resolution: 1366x768
Contrast: 10,000:1
Brightness: 1,500 cd/m²
HD Signal Support: 720p/1080i
Best Price: £2400

Pioneer PDP-506XDE
Resolution: 1280x768
Contrast: 4,000:1
Brightness: 1,100 cd/m2
HD Signal Support: Doesn’t say
Best Price: £3059

Panasonic TH-50PV500
Resolution: 1366x768
Contrast: 3,000:1

Best Price: £3095

LG 50PX4D
Resolution: 1366x768
Contrast: 10,000:1
Brightness: 1,000 cd/m²
HD Signal Support: Doesn’t say
Best Price: £2553.74

Fujitsu P50XTS40GSS
Resolution: 1366 x 768
Contrast: Doesn’t say
Brightness: Doesn’t say
HD Signal Support: 720p/1080i
Best Price: £3500 (may not be best price, having trouble matching model number)

Three SCART sockets with only one HDCP DVI (that can be used for HDMI and component via an adapter) is ridiculous though. The Philips also doesn’t support a 1080p signal, only 1080i, so it might not be great for Blu-ray players since you’ll be losing half the resolution. The power consumption is 257W which doesn’t seem too bad especially compared to 430W of the LG or 344W of the Pioneer, so it will be cheaper to run than other models.

It looks like the Philips was launched around October last year. The cheapest price I’ve found it for online is £2620 so the Costo price is good and you also get Costo’s warranty.

Does the Costco price include a stand? The Philips pdf brochure says it comes with a stand which seems to be this.

Is it in store yet? I might go in and have a look.

I'm waiting until there is something to watch until I get something to watch it on...

Strangely, I was in Costco today and is the reason Im now searching for info on it now!

It did look good - but not outstanding - especially with a 50" Pioneer sitting next to it at £3999 did look much better.

The stand in the link you posted is definately not included - and Ive not seen anywhere suggest it does. (That link just says its suitable for several models - not that its free with them!)

Its certainly far more than I was intending on shelling out for a Plamsa - but as mentioned, it is a good price compared to elsewhere - especially with the 3 year warrenty. The best I have found online for it is £2600 -so its £250 cheaper.

I was hoping to find out what the display is like using DVI and a PC. Since its one of the reasons I am looking at a Plasma - and using with Microsoft media centre. If it looks naf (especially as its 50") then I will have a rethink. If its the dogs nuts - then I guess I will get one.

My mistake, I just re-read it and it definately doesn't imply the stand comes with it. I can't actually find the stand for sale anywhere.

Oh well, it's still a good price so I'll have to go in and have a look. It's not on offer until Mach 12 (I think) so it's still a while off.
