My friend has just taken delivery of a 36" Toshiba and is happy, but says that the screen needs rotating slightly.

My Sony (and Panasonic prior to this) had a user setting to all you to compensate for the geomagnetic field. In other worths, it let you rotate the screen clockwise/anticlockwise a few degrees.

Does the Tosh have this function, or do you have to go into the service menus?

No adjustment available either via user or service menus.

The scanning coils on the tube inside the Tv need to be turned slightly. Not a job for a novice, but why oh why all wide screen Tv's don't have a user facility to do this I don't know!! (Well I do as Toshiba engineer said it would add to the cost..)

Toshiba scanning coils can be twisted easier than most Tv's but would never recommend you do it.

There is a para option on the service menu "/ /" but no horizontal tilt option, as has been mentioned.
