Tosh 36ZP Setup

I am sure some of these questions were answered in the monster tosh thread last month but I can't find them.

On the above TV, there are 3 picture settings (1,2 and 3). The manual tells you sod all about what they do but I seem to remember that one of them cuts out all the processing and results in a cleaner picture.

Does anybody know?

It's all well and good replacing a set but it took me 3 weeks to get the last one set up correctly and now I have to start all over again

You should set it to Picture Mode 3. It switches off the dynamic contrast.

Cliff007 - Was it you who recently posted about scrolling bars on the sony KV36"? - Did you resolve this?.
I thought this only affected the Fq models

Markster - yes, I did post about the scrolling bars. I can confirm it is present on the 36FS70, I know of two other people's sets that have the same problem.

Some information I got from Toshiba a while ago:

Picture mode 3 has Horizontal Scan Velocity Modulation (HSVM) turned off.
This is used to sharpen up the edges of fast black to white & white to
black transitions ie: text in captions (not Teletext) without it the right
hand edges of bright objects look softer.

Picture mode 1 is for Shop demonstration only ie: 100% contrast, 100% HSVM,
50% Brightness, Colour and Sharpness.

Picture mode 2 at mid settings 50% inc (HSVM) is the best starting point
for use at home.

Picture mode M is what is memorised after you have tweaked either of the
other modes for personal taste.

There are two modes of 100Hz operation:-
100Hz = this is the original method of doubling frame scan (called AA+BB)
it overcomes frame flicker but cannot improve line jitter (interlace is
causing this) hence the fact when an On screen menu is displayed it is
bouncing between the lines.
Natural = the latest of our designs using AA'+BB' system, A' and B' are
fields made up from the previous fields in memory but with and fast moving
objects ignored.

Note: UK 625 line TV display is made up of 25 pictures per second (called a
frame), each picture is made from an Odd number field, lines 1,3,5,7,9 etc
then an Even field, lines 2,4,6,8 etc hence a normal vertical scan rate of
50Hz.

I got it from the Toshiba technical support department when my saga with TV problems began. I don't know why they don't print this kind of information in the manual.
