Hello
After searching these forums and the rest of the internet, it seems fairly clear that I have a faulty painter chip in my Philips 28" - PW6515, A10E chassis.......buttons locking up, failing to fire up properly, freezing with the OSD still visible etc etc
I've spoken to a few local repair shops and the consensus of opinion has largely been that I would be better saving the quoted ball park figure of £140-£180 for the repair and putting it towards a new set. Both shops said that they had stopped doing these repairs themselves now, as very often there were further problems with the sets even after the painter had been replaced.
Given that there seems to be a fair few decent 28" CRT's available for around the £200 mark at the moment, this seems to make sense but any opinions would be welcomed.
Am I being quoted too much for the repair ?
Has anyone had the chip replaced and gone onto experience more problems ?
Has anyone had the chip replaced and had no further problems ?
Overall, I still really like the set - the picture and sound have always been good until the problem occured
I'm trying to think of reasons why I should keep it really, or other than that - do you think it's worth anything to anyone 'sold as seen'......it does have a 'factory' stand which may make a difference I suppose
Any opinions gratefully received
Thanks
