Help Needed On 1992 Sony 14" Tv

I have a trinitron 14" tele from 1992, i can do the basic functions ie: vol, scart selection and so on, but i want to tune the set i just cant seem to find the origional remote control for it, does anyone know what i can do thanks

alot of sony sets can only be tuned via the original remote control. Give your local friendly tv shop a call and see if they can get hold of one for you. Whats the model?

model No. is kvm1 410u

still working for nearly 14 yrs and has such a loverly picture compared some LCD stuff ive seen...

Hi Ismael,

I too have a 14" Trinitron Sony television from that era and do agree the picture is still excellent.

My Sony is model No. KVM1420U and the remote control number is RM694. One of the other members of our forums has had difficulty in tuning in his Sony KVM1420U and I gave him a copy of my manual. He has tried several times to tune it but thinks maybe his remote control (essential to tuning this tv) or his tv are faulty. He can tune it o.k. but cannot store the numbers.

There are replacement remote controls on the internet for our models but it could well be, as mentioned, that they will operate the Sony but may not tune it.

Thats the remote model number, do you have the part number, it should start RCxxx ?

Hi Lynx,

No, I don't have a part number. The only number on the remote is RM694. The specification in the manual only mentions the model number too.

Hi Ismael,

I'm sorry I can't send you my remote control. My Sony is tuned into the channels in my part of the country. As Mike, the other member on this forum, found he could not store any of the channels on the same model tv as mine after he had tuned it (he had an original remote control and an instruction manual) I daren't risk my tuning not being stored. We use the tv every day.

Go to Google and put up Sony KVM1410U remote. You will see a few sites, and a replacement one is around £15. Most of them give you your money back if it's not suitable.

These wonderful portable tvs are very difficult to tune. I couldn't do it and my son did it for us. I could send you a copy of the manual (twelve pages!) free of charge if you didn't have that; you certainly need it to tune this television, it's most complicated.

Hi Ismael,

I meant mentioning that this remote has 37 buttons on it so your Casio might have had difficulty in learning all the functions.

Click on Private Messages at top right of the forum or ask AV Forums to send me an e-mail. Whichever way you choose, you just need to give me an address so I can send the manual to you.

Good luck with the tuning and storing. You have to have a remote control to do it. Buy a replacement one from a website that will return your money if the control doesn't operate everything.

that remote rm694 is no longer available but sony do a replacement (rms048b)

still available around the £20-£25 mark.

I've got a Sony 14" tv bought it in the early 90's. The picture is brilliant, it looks like it could have been designed today. Much better picture than my mankey new Phillips 28pw6720. I bought a cheap universal remote control from Asda it sets the default colour picture settings. No tunning unfortunately.

Hi D.H.,

I find it interesting to learn that there are more of these Sony Trinitron televisions from the early nineties around, and still working fine.

They are wonderful sets, must have been well made, so reliable and a great picture too. Those were the days when Sony almost reigned supreme.

I had one of the early Sony walkmans / cd players solid bit of kit. I've recently bought a Sony w5, very well made. Hopefull it will last as well as my tv.

you got that right, sony still make good tv's today well i know they have dis-continued makin crt's but u know what i mean

there are not many sony's left either faulty or just thrown away over the yrs so im gonna hang onto mine for alot longer still.....
