hi i have just got a 28 inch fst Phillips Tv 28pw8719 , 100hz, it is linked to my Sky tv box, i have since heard that 100hz tvs are not supposed to be that good ?? i must admit it all seems great !! but please tell me whats is the benefits of a 100hz over a normal tv... it was a end of line model so got it cheap £240.00 so at the time thought yes i will have some of that...

sound like a great price for a 100Hz set. you can find spec sheet on it at
philips.co.uk , just type "28pw8719" in their site search. are you sure about
the model and price. tempting. if you like it - its most probably good!

As for 100Hz : just run a search on "progressive scan" to learn about:

(1) 100Hz: (increased refresh rate, to reduce flicker)
(2) progressive scan: (created to further reduce other image artefacts)

What are the benefits of 100Hz?

Well for me, the flicker from a 50Hz CRTv makes my eyes bloodshot in a couple of hours when sitting close (especially in a dark room), but this doesn't happen with 100Hz tv.

A 100Hz tv has a much more solid look to it. After having 100Hz for a few weeks I couldn't believe how bad 50Hz looked, unstable and dull.

You're absolutely right.

I can hear myself saying, some years ago, "who'd pay extra for a 100Hz Sony, I can't see a thing flickering on my then 50Hz KV29F3?"

Then I got used to a 100Hz Sony KV28FX65U and couldn't bear to watch any 50Hz set thereafter.

Even the bedroom 16" Sony which I had raved about was now unwatchable.

Amazing, but true.
