I have a Sony 32DX-150U IDTV which I'd like to connect a projector to in order to take the freeview picture from the telly and project it. I know that the AV3 connector to the rear of the telly can be configured to output video and adio from freeview, but my question is whether this will be composite only, or if there's a chance that S-Video might be present on this scart?

The Sony manual is not at all helpful on this point and since I'll be "frigging" (technical term) my own cable together from some co-ax and a crimp connection scart plug I need to get it right first time, rather than indulge in trial and error.

I'm also a bit confused about which pins the YC will appear on if it can be generated from the scart socket. The SCART pinout seems to have pin 19 for luminance output (if not composite), but where's the chroma output coming from? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART

Pin 15 is listed as Chroma but surely that's an input?

Sounds a bit of an odd thing you're doing there. Can't you just buy a freeview box and connect it to your PJ? a fv box costs £30 and would be a bit simpler. You don't mention which PJ you have so I can't comment on connection options.

Hi, not odd from my perspective. I have all the kit and cable I need to do the job already here in the house and I'd like to just connect them up in the right order. Buying a new box doesn't appeal by comparison, after all I'll only rarely use the projector for TV added to which I'm a tight bugger.

The projector is a Barco Graphics 6300 which will display just about any kind of video you care to connect to it. Clearly I could just use composite but I'd rather benefit from using YC if I can.

Does the telly not give RGBS out on the AV3 output ? that will be your best option 'qualitywise'. Regards, yt.

Don't know if RGB + composite is output, that's kinda the question as to whether anyone knows since the manual's no help.

You should be all means avoid using composite connections, they provide the lowest quality connection possible!
Most higher-end TV's allow passing S-video or RGB over scart provided you have a scart cable that is fully wired (some cheaper models actually do not have all pins wired).
