Silvercrest TV- BBC1- jumping between mono and stereo

Hello,
I have just bought a Silvercrest 21" TV from Lidl. Everything is fine with it, except for a minor irritation on BBC1. The sound switches between mono and stereo every few seconds. This does not happen on other channels.
The configuration is as follows: Aerial from wall into the telly - scart connector from the video recorder into one socket of the telly - scart connector from DVD player into the other socket of the telly.
I have tried selecting one of either stereo or mono on the OSD, but it doesn't seem to hold a setting.
Does anyone know what is going on here, and what I might do about it?
Thanks

Hi
If you were to say you dont have a good picture because of a poor aerial, as well, then that would be the cause.

Thanks for your replies.

The picture appears to be perfect, and the sound, when mono is indicated, is excellent. When it switches to stereo the sound level goes down a bit, but otherwise is fine.

When I set up the system initially, I had the aerial cable going into the video recorder, and a scart cable from that into the telly. The dvd player was connected as described before.

I will try the old fashioned approach and connect the video to the telly by the video's co-axial cable. Failing that, I think that I might contact the BBC to see if they have any ideas.

Your description sounds like the TV is cycling between the NICAM Stereo broadcast and the parallel FM mono broadcast. i.e. as if it's having trouble staying locked on to NICAM. Could be bad signal or a demic tuner.

I doubt that diverting the RF cable via the VCR would improve matters - but you never know and it costs nothing to try.....

Hi

It sounds like your TV is faulty.
When I had a faulty TV from Tesco, they said anything under 28" they just swap or money back.
