Picture alignment problem on Philips 28" CRT

I've just noticed that the picture on my Philips 28PT4456 CRT is not centred on the screen when playing some of my console games. Some examples; GameCube TimeSplitters2 has a 2cm black bar at the bottom, a 0.5cm black bar at the top and a 1cm black bar on the right hand side of the screen, the RHS bar is 1cm half way up the screen which is where it's widest. However, on GameCube TimeSplitters FP only a 0.5cm black bar appears on the bottom of the screen. I recall seeing this with an old N64 game I had but not with any other of my N64 games.

I think this is a problem with the TV rather than the games/consoles. Has anybody else had this problem or recommend how it can be fixed. I got the TV about 4yrs ago so might just get a LCD replacement but don't really want to fork out a +£1000. Thanks.

This sort of thing is common. You can also see differences on the centering of the picture with different Sky channels. It's less of a problem with the aerial signals because BBC and ITV take more care over their output signal.

The chances are that certain console games are written with a slightly off centre screen position. Correcting the picture for one or two games will screw up the positioning for everything else. Changing to a flat screen may not solve the problem unless that TV overscans more (chops off more of the edges).

Hi

some games are off centre on my TV also using both Game Cube and Xbox
If you start up the Game Cube without a game in it you get a menu screen,
one of the options allows you to move the game screen left or right.

Also I found that selecting the 60HZ option causes the screen to move left on the Cube, and having Pal 60 selected on the Xbox, causes the same problem.
