Progressive Scan...

Hi all,

I was in a service station this evening on my journeys, and noticed an Outrun 2 arcade cab sitting in the corner. When i went over to look at it, i couldnt help but notice how unbelievably clear and precise the graphics were (especially compared with any home console i have used)

I came to the conclusion, that the monitors must be 'Progressive Scan', with no interlacing whatsoever, and crystal clear moving graphics. I can honestly see why people rave on about this now!!

Now, i am in the market for a new television, but really cant stomach the picture of LCD / cost of plasma.

Are there any GOOD crt's that will display a progressive scan source either in the UK or in Europe that could be available to the UK (i.e. a PAL television)??

I want progressive scan!!!!!

Is this what you saw?

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?...&game_id=12905

The cabinet uses CRT monitors running at 480p (progressive scan).

The best 480p picture I have seen on a widescreen CRT TV is on the Toshiba 32ZP48 or its bigger brother, the 36ZP48.

I have the 32ZP48 in the living room and I'm not saying its good coz I have it, just search the forum on ZP48 and you'll find just how many people like this set. At 480p looks as good or better than an arcade monitor.

I think it's more than that.

Monitors are different from normal CRT's in a basic fundemantal way.

Because monitors are viewed from very small distances, they have a very fine dot pitch as well.

Indeed they do but the 28" monitors in arcade machines don't have the same dot pitch as 21"/22" CRT PC monitors ie 0.23mm~0.25mm although they are still somewhat sharper than conventional prog scan tvs.

Re. Eiji83

Yes, it was that exact cabinet... Bit of a shame thoes 28" monitors arent easily available to buy, because they'd make for a great console screen!

It did look truly stunning, and i know for a fact that no LCD i have seen can even come close to it. Its odd really, because you would think that resolution is more or less everything when it comes to picture quality. However, as i learned from seeing this arcade cabinet, a moving picture depends on FAR more than just a high resolution to deliver great images.

Its such a shame we in the UK dont have access to a wide variety of Prog Scan CRT televisions, like in the states. Oh, if only Loewe would make one!!!
