Hi! Anyone know anything about furture crts? are there more slimfits coming? I'm looking for a crt tv and I'm having a hard time choosing from the current range, so I would like to know when new models come out. Do companies release new tvs in the first couple of months of the year or would I have to wait longer?

Cheers for the link. Damn those tvs look nice especially the black. Unfortunately I'm in the UK and I dont think u can get that brand over here, they probably too expensive for me, they look very upmarket.

New CRTs will become limited over the next couple of years, what with LCD and plasma being pushed down our throats.

I can't wait no more, I need a new tv now. Not really ready for hdtv was hoping for 2 more years but my old sony died too early. Kinda stupid trying to phase crts out, but the good thing is it is driving down the price.So should I be complaining? I dunno. A year ago I think decent 32inch crts cost around a grand, u can get them now for almost half the price. Gonna go for the JVC HV32P37, great price for the amount of features, shame about the RGB outputting in composite on 60hz feeds.

I can see the death of the beloved crt coming sooner rather than later...shame really but if the collective will of the various manufacturers decides that the flat panel will rule the roost then i see no way for the humble consumer to fight it in the long term.

The decline of CRT TV in Europe is a more complex issue than simply a manufacturers desire to push up prices. Here are some of what's going on behind the scenes...

1. Environmental issues. The WEEE directive proposes to tax manufacturers for the cost of disposing of a TV at the end of its life. Those companies who currently sell most CRT face the largest bills. The major brands are all reducing their exposure on CRT and switching to flat which has lower % disposal cost per set.
2. Market factors - Supermarket 'no name' brands have gobbled up a big chunk of the volume entry-level market that used to help pay for R&D in to new sets.
3. Retailers have been telling manufacturers that there's no market left for high-end CRT. This is because consumers prefer to spend the extra on a new flat TV, particularly since the gap is closing so quick.
4. Timing of high-def around the world. America & Japan both got in to hi-def broadcasting whilst there was still a strong CRT manufacturing industry. In the UK & Europe Hi-Def is coming too late to halt the decline in CRT. Flat screen technology dominates the Hi-Def market here. There's no incentive for a major CRT manufacturer to invest heavily in new CRT production - the potential market is just to small now. A specialist could do it - Loewe perhaps - but there would be a hefty price tag.

The manufacturers are only responding to demand. If there were sufficient demand to develop a high end CRT, including all development & disposal costs, someone would do it. Unfortunately the numbers just don't add up.

The thought off buying an lcd has now crept into my head after being told the crt I wanted just went out of stock. After 1 month of research it has amounted to nothing and I gotta get through xmas with a 14inch Goodmans fishbowl. Ive looked at the lcd forum and that forum moves fast, and it vast amounts of info on alot of different models.

The choice is unbelieveable with each of the main brands having 2-3 different 32inch models and each model with there own thread, some threads go to over 90 bloody pages! If it took me a month to decide on a crt with very limited choice how long is gonna take me to decide on a lcd.

The market has literally forced me to go lcd, I want a high spec crt but noone makes them anymore. It seems companies wanting to phase out crt is working out quite nicely for them.

He was going to get the JVC HV-32P37 but its discontinued now (2003 model).

I forgot about them, they didnt appear on pricerunner. Ive heard, well read a few bad things about them. Already done quite a bit a research on lcds now and im very tempted to go for one. LOL, I had a strict 500 quid budget for a new tv, I'm stretching it to 1000 for an lcd now, doesnt make sense no?

I'll put a stop to that, why not get a JVC HV-32D40BK from amazon, it's £560 but they won't take the p**s (not too much anyway) if it's not in stock when it says it is etc.
