So my Samsung WS32Z306VB died...

A month and a half ago I impuse bought a Samsung WS32Z306VB from Comet: http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/453_268046.html. Since having it there has been a few issues with it. Firstly, if you turn on the TV onto an AV channel (ie you turned it off when on AV, which is always for me as everything comes thrrough AV) you will get slight static from the left speaker. If you then go off AV and back onto AV it will be fine. This I was willing to put up with...

The picture always looked a bit red and I had assumed that I just needed to adjust it. After a few weeks of tweaking I finally came to the decision that the picture was rubish. As I came to that decision, I put the TV back to it's 'normal' picture setting and it was so dark that I could hardly see anything on the screen. Now over the last week all the colours have been going crazy, and not just on AV. Its kinda green now, I dont know it I prefer that than the original red, but anyway, it is not right. It got so bad that last night we swapped to watching my old 14" TV!

Anyway, I called Comet and an engineer is coming to have a look at it on Saturday. I dont think there is any way that he can say that there isnt a problem, so I was considering what options I will get for how it will be resolved. That is if they give options rather than forcing one on me. I suppose that one may be fixed - probabily not on the spot, so would be without a TV for a bit. We could get a new one, but again we may need to wait for a bit. Or we could be given store credit or refund. At the moment I think that this is the option that I may push for as I have just found that you can get pretty much the same TV but will do 1080i which would be awesome for my Xbox 360 - http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/t...z308paxxeu.asp . I know that this TV (when working) doesnt have the best picture ever but this TV is just filling a gap for a few years until I can get HDTV normal TV. As long as the picture looks good then I am happy.

What do you think will happen when the TV engineer comes? Will I get a choice? If I get store credit, comet dont appear to stock the slightly better model that will do 1080i, so what should I get instead? The same TV?

Thanks,
Kieran

once in a while it is recommended to switch off TV on main button, not leaving on stand by forever because of magnetization. if this doesn't help to cure 'strange colours' your TV is probably faulty

The WS32Z308P only supports 1080i at 50Hz and the Xbox 360 only outputs 1080i at 60Hz. I guess you know what that means.

Just thought you should know that before wasting your money on it.

The JVC HV-32D40 does 1080i at 50Hz and 60Hz but its not available at Currys so you can't buy it if they give you store credit.

Thanks for the replies. As you point out, the 360 wouldnt work in hi def on the other model which makes me a lot happier as all the extra stuff on the other model I wouldnt use so the one I have got is plenty good enough for me. Lets just hope that the engineer comes says 'oh yes thats knackered' and says we can go and pick up another one at our local store the same day. Roll on Saturday!

hi guys

Ive just bought one from comet for 499.99 and having msome real problems with it, the picture is contantly jumping and when writing scrolls its impossible to read along the bottom,

I called a tech out from comet and he said it was the "spec of the tv" now forgive me if im wrong but i should be able to view at a decent quality but its terrible

So then comet refused to do anything about it, i called samsung and they said it def shouldnt be happening and to contact comet again, they have now booked another tech after i mentioned that i contacted samsung and also trading stadards but they said it will be down to the tech on saturday if they will exchange

i wouldnt mind if i had spent 200 quid on it but for me £500 is alot of money and i expected at least a decent quality

Well the tech said that the tube was knackered and that the sound issue was a secondary fault. As the TV was over 28 days old he was not authorised to give a replacement but he promised to try and get one for us when he has written his report. A few days later I found out that we had been authorised for a replacement, so after numerous calls to the stupid comet call center and 2 hours in the local store on two occasions, I eventually got my replacement TV and it is BRILLIANT! Picture quality is superb and there are no sound issues. I am very happy
