Toshiba 36ZP46 or 36ZP48 and 1080i or 720p

Out of interest, has anyone tried shoving 1080i or 720p through their Toshiba 36ZP46 or 36ZP48 TVs? Through which inputs?

I tried Soul Calibur on my xbox with the dashboard set to 720p and all you get is a black screen. I used the component sockets btw
