NTSC Compatible TV's

I am moving to Cuba and have been told that the TV system is NTSC. I have also been told that an NTSC compatible TV bought here would not actually work over there. Is this correct? Is there a magic box I can by to convert the signal?

Thanks in advance
Steve

It depends on the TV manufacturer's definition of NTSC compatible.
However, there is another problem. It is unlikely that the tuners in most European TVs tune to exactly the same channels as in Cuba ; their channel frequencies and channel spacings are probably different to ours.
They may also use closed captioning - which European TVs are unlikely to handle.
First step would be to investigate exactly what channelisation system they use in Cuba.
I don't have a current World Radio and TV Handbook with which to check this.

What's in Cuba besides a communist dictatorship?

Politics or TV?

I was aksing for your TV views, not your political ones.

Type 'Cuba' into Google and you can find out all for yourself what is in Cuba besides a communist dictatorship.

It was just a friendly question. I guess my smiley face didn't go through.

Sorry - I thought you were having a dig.

Fantastic place. Carribean chilled life with an interesting twist. Music, dancing and cocktails coming out of many doorways.Lovely people that have that Latin rhythm!

If you get a chance to go via Mexico/Canada, you'll have the best time.

I honestly wasn't having a dig at you. I was just curious as to what would bring you there. You have to admit that it is unusual for someone from a free nation to be moving to a communist dictatorship. I personally would never visit while that country is run the way it is. Anyway, good luck.
