Philips 32PW9534 just died. Can anyone help?

My trusty 32PW9534 has just died.

The picture flashed, the screen went black and now the standby light flashes red whatever I do.

There is a worrying smell of 'electronics' around the back of the set, albeit quite slight.

Does anyone have any ideas what might have gone wrong, and is the TV destined for the scrap heap?

The only thing you can do is call in an engineer to have a look and give you an estimate.
Do not attempt having a go yourself...modern sets are beyond d-i-y fixers.

Why would anyone faff about with a Philips when you can buy a Sony or Panasonic for less than £400 ????

Hmmm...dunno, maybe it's the 400 quid bit.

Looks like a plasma is going to be on the way anyway!

stay away from the plasme sets just go out and get urself a nice sony trinitron fd wega crt for £150-250, they might weigh alot and take up some room but they sure as hell give a BRILL picture

Agree - for most uses. But I don't like what my Sony KD-32DX15OU 100Hz TV does to some video games.

how old was your set and when was it first released?
