Replacement for Philips 25PT632A/05 - wood finish

My lovely Philips 25PT632A/05 has died after 8 years.
Any suggestions for its replacement in terms of picture quality?
Most televisions in the shops look the same and don't seem to have the sharpness, clarity and glossiness I crave.
My budget is around £300. (I got the wood Philips secondhand.)
The only CRT I've seen with a wow factor is the Philips 28PW9509 for £489, but it seems to have niggles (from what I've seen on the forums).
Is this extra investment worth it? (You never really know what a tv is like until you get it set up at home.)
Hope you can help.
