Hi,

I have this on my tv but am not really sure what it means ?

In the simpliest terms progressive scan show you all of the picture in one go. Normal Tv pictures are made up of lines(a&b) you see half the picture 1st, A, then the rest of it second B, this is done 50 times a second, hence 50Hz, but you don't really notice this happening. The progression from this was 100hz tv's which do the same thing only 100 times a second, thus reducing flicker. after that came progressive scan which instead of showing lines A then followed by B you get A and B at the same time, therefore a crisper image. At the moment you only get progressive images when using a compatible dvd player or games console.

Thanks for that pooon Tang so does that mean that when watching sky for instance the progressive scan doesn't come into play then ?

Thats right. But if you have a compatible dvd player the difference between progressive and interlace is very obvious
