I had my Panasonic TX-28DTM1 television about a week and in that time the analogue TV channels have switched to black and white twice, although digital is fine. The screen aspect constantly changes from full screen to I guess you would call it a letter box aspect although you only lose about 2cm top and bottom. This can change up to 40 times during the same 1 hour program, and during the same seens in a program. I think this also happens only on Analogue. Also on one occasion the tele gave out a terrible noise 'speaker noise' on all channels and both analogue and digital. Thought the tele was going to blow up!

All problems disappeared when you switch the tele of and back on again.

Currys were more than happy to exchange the tele for a new one, but already this new tele seems to have the same problems, with the exception of the speaker noise, so far.

Has anyone else experienced these problems? Do you think the problem is due to a bad batch of teles or could there be something wrong with the setup. Please help!

Do you have good reception, some of these problems can be caused by a poor signal.

Hi Nigel, For most of the time the picture and sound is perfect, and I've been told I have a very good signal where I live. In fact for one of my old tele's I used to have to use a reducer as it was too powerful. Do you think that it could be too good a signal?

I would expect the picture to be perfect all the time with a good signal.

I have a Panasonic myself and when set to Panasonic Auto the picture can come in and out when it adjusts the aspect.
The signal to adjust is carried via the aerial, could be a cause?

If this is the case then that could be important to confirm the fault.

Too powerfull a signal can cause problems on digital but not analogue.

I agree with Nigel

My Panasonic jumps aspect with the setting to Auto as (I am sure you know this) not all programs are produced in the same 16:9 aspect ratio and many films appear in letterbox format and some TV programs are still 4:3. I forced mine to 'just' whenever Auto made it jumped out of a full screen to get a full picture but people will be stretched and my wife was never very comfortable with this.

Thanks for your responses Nigel and Dunsters. I've been watching my tele a bit more closely, and have found in Digital the picture will ocasional drop as much as 2 inches from the top, so you can't see the bottom bit of the screen and when you switch channels you can't see all of the "what's on this channel' bar at the bottom of the screen. Surely this can't be right. Also I sometimes get a very thin bar of dotted colour at the top of the picture about half way across the top of the screen.
Have either of you had the problem of the analogue picture being in black and white, no matter what channel you are on. Surely this can't be right either?
I do have the aspect set as Auto, and when you switch channels you get a letter box picture (about an inch at the top and bottom of the screen) for a second or two before the picture goes full screen. I assume this is normal. I can kind of understand the picture changing aspect during a program when the side of the picture are dark for a few seconds, as it thinks the picture is in a different aspect ratio, but surely it shouldn't be changing constantly during scenes in the same program (like I said about 40 times during 1 episode of the bill!).
If you switch off and back on it will clear any of these problems, for a while at least.

Does it switch if you have the aspect set to 16/9?

Mine does loose some of the picture, and change during a program.
When set to auto it is like a computer trying to fill the screen, if it senses a dark area at the top it thinks it is in 16/9 and it moves up. If you are not happy with all the adjustments auto make, leave it in 16/9 and change it manualy with the remote when you need to.

Maybe it is faulty if it shows no colour, does it do this on everything-including VCR/DVD ?
