TV Gone Bang !!

My brothers TV has just gone bang, hes already bought a replacement but I managed to stop him from throwing it away......

The bang came from the power cable rather than inside the box - the cable has fried.

Question - Do you think its worth getting someone to look over the TV to see if its fixable ? Its a sony 28" widescreen (about 5 years old) and would be a nice replacement for my 10 year old Samsung but I dont really want to waste too much money if its dead as a dodo. Ive been wanting to get a widescreen TV for ages but have not had the money (also saving up for a projector ).

Any ideas ho much a tv repair man would charge to give it the once over ??

If the cable has fried i would be more inclined to think the cable was damaged-the internal fuse would blow before the external cable fried if it was something internal on the TV at fault. May just need a new line cord

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure about the plug fuse im affraid.

I think I'll pop down to my local repair man and have a chat. My concern is that if I get the cable changed I dont want it happening again.
