Philips TV Problem

Hi,

I have a 4 year old Philips 28PW9536 it is a 100HZ 16:9 TV that has developed a bit of a problem.

Once every few days and usually 5 - 10 minutes after being turned on the TV makes a loud sharp bang, it sounds just like a rifle shot . The dog usually runs for cover. When it does this the screen goes blank for 2 - 3 seconds and then comes back on. Once it is on it will not do this again for a few days. Does anyone have any ideas what this is? Is my TV on the way out?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It sounds as if your EHT applied to the tube via that large "sucker" could be flashing over to deck. Are you operating it in a humid environment? Or in a very smoky environment?
Does it "hiss" from the back, especially just before it cracks?
With it on, and the lights out at night, is there an eery blue glow anywhere inside the set?

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the reply, the environment is neither smoky nor humid and there is no buzzing sound that I can hear, I haven't noticed any blue glow but I will turn the lights out and check.

Thanks

Simon

No, not a buzz, it's a very distinctive hissing sound, almost like eggs frying.
