Sanyo countdown problem

My son has a 32 inch Sanyo - possibly the 32WN7 - and it's developed a strange problem.

If he tries to select a TV channel, he gets a countdown box counting down from 10. After 10 minutes the TV turns off.

Using the AV input, there's no problem.

It isn't the sleep timer as that is turned off. He's searched the menus for any other timer function, but no joy.

Any ideas anyone please?

Cheers,

Ray D

As nig28 says if there is no signal present, the set will go into automatic switchoff.
You didn't say if the terrestrial channels were tuned in.

Thanks for the responses. I've pointed my son at this thread so he can read your advice.
