Post Some pointers, please....?

I am looking to buy a tv and dvd player.
I've pretty much chosen the dvd player, the Onkyo DV-S535, so now i need a tv to go with it.

I've been getting a bit bogged down with all the jargon. I'm sure half these features are not a necessity.

It has to be widescreen.
28'-32' screen.
As flat as poss.
But above all, it has to have a good picture, and secondly, sound quality: However, this does not mean that if George from Watford says its the bees-knees i will buy it.

I am not looking for cinema surround sound.
I do not have sky
I do not need digital pictures.
I am a poor uni student so i have to stay realistic!

I had orignally chosen the Philips 28PW6305 after reading so many positive things. However, the picture is less than impressive in places like Comet, Lewis' or Frasers'. But then their reception is never that good in those kind of buildings. So i've been holding off.

I had seen it on Empire for £349 (rrp £550) But they stopped doing it this morning, the day i phone! So i'm thinking of looking for something else.
My Da' says he may chip in (25%) for the tv, its going in the living room anyway. So i was thinking of looking for something at maybe 700 quid, and getting it cheaper on the net at the price of the original Philips.

This is a long posting when all i want to know is what is a good choice.

I've seen some lovely Sony's, nice 'n' flat, and wide.

To cut a long story short...

28 inches, widescreen, best picture, and rgb scart????????
