Has anyone ordered one of the new toshiba picture frame models recently?

I ordered a 36" model over a month ago and i still haven't heard from them, i phoned them today and they said they are still out of stock!!!.

According to my local JL store non of the JL stores have them?.
Anyone else waiting?

I phoned up JL Bluewater on 10/07/01 asking about the 32ZP18P set and they told me there was going to be a 5 week wait, possibly longer. I didn't mind this as I've ummming and arring for months about what set to get and a few more weeks wait was OK for the set I'd finally chosen.

Anyway I sent them the price match info, a few days later I got the 'OK' from them so I went up there on the 17/07 to reserve the set. I was pretty surprised when they said I could take one home with me! I declined that option and got it delivered on 19/07.

8 weeks and counting ...

What price match did you get for the tosh as I am interested in one went to currys today they had none in stock eather, there price is £1,597.

It was the 32" version and I'm very happy with it, apart from a slight buzzing noise coming from the back (see Noisy Toshiba 32ZP18P post).

The broadcast picture quality is excellent (using a telewest digibox) and the DVD playback seems good as well, although I'm using a composite connection until I get the correct s-video cable.

It looks like it is going to be september before JL have any stock!!!!!. I might as well wait for the january sales!!

By the way i dont suppose anyone knows what the dimensions are of the box for the 36" tv is?.
I know its an odd question but i dont really want to fook out £65 delievry, so i want to see what friends car i need to get to fit it in!

The 36in has the following Dimensions: (w) 855 x (h) 622.3 x (d) 594 mm

If you are going to collect it yourself, check the tv is ok in the box before you drive away. My first set was broken into several pieces when the delivery team opened the box, and they had collected it direct from the lorry that had come from the factory that morning. I am very glad it was not down to me to prove that I had not dropped it after taking it away. There is very little padding around the set and the box was unmarked even though the set was scrap inside

Ken can you do use a big favour and answer a few questions. Finally I am due to pick up my 36" Tosh set tomorrow (Sunday)<br />I will definitely look in the box before I leave but what should I be looking for?<br />What was broken on your set was it obvious?<br />Also are there two boxes I should be collecting one for the tv and one for the stand?<br />When I get it home I will eagerly check it for possible problems reported in earler threads.<br />Possible transformer noise/bus<br />Possible colour staining in corners of screen<br />Possible poor analogue pictures.<br />Possible dark bands down ether side of screen (When veiwing blue screen)<br />Possible flaring of bright outdoor scenes.<br />Sorry to list the above but the problems have apparently been experienced by some Toshiba owners.<br />Hopefully my set will be ok, fingers crossed.

John Lewis have regional warehouses to serve their stores.

From someone who has nearly been waiting 3 months for their Tosh from JL here is the latest on this<br />TV direct from the Toshiba rep

The success of the 36" model has caught them by surprise - demand has<br />greatly exceeded supply.

Toshiba prioritise their dealers - unfortunately not sure where JL are on this list -<br />Comet are one of their main dealers

The next batch to be delivered will be to Comet on 28 August

Markster,<br /> have you got your TV as yet? I just place an order with JL at the beginning of this week for a Sony TV. I had to wait for a few days for them to do a price match. After they agreed, I was told that they are out of stock and it will take 4 to 6 weeks !!!!!!<br />I rang two other JL branches one said up to 8 weeks!!! I was also told that they have one big warehouse that serves all the JL branches around the country.

I was so hoping to get my TV for the Bank holiday weekend :-(

bigH007 - to answer your question if i have got my Tv yet.<br />Answer = Nope!!!!.

Placed my order back in June, and according to JL it is now going to be sometime in September!!!!.

When i was in the store making the order i was told 3 weeks!, 4 weeks later i was then told 2 weeks, and so on and so on.

I know it isnt JL's fault, but it is getting a bit anoying having to wait so long. No doubt when september comes and i call them again, they will then tell me "it will now likely be October!".

At this rate i might as well wait for the January Sales :-)

I am sure your patients will be rewarded, i had this set but it had some problems so i decided on a refund. Please dont let this put you off i was unlucky, it is still the best 36" set going.<br />I have decided to get a rear projection set instead,pure greed thats all! <br />Good luck<br /> <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Well it finally arrived!, and i have to say it is superb and worth the wait.<br />I had to get the guy across the road to help me lift it onto the stand because it is one heavy bugger!.

Didn't receive any speakers with it so have been onto JL about it. Does anyone know do the speakers come in a separate box. ie should there have been 3 boxes delivered?, or were your speakers in with your tv?.

When i get these speakers I can then see if they're any good and then decide if it would be worth buying an amp and some new mission speakers instead, anyone else gone this route?

Hi Markster, I agree with you it’s an absolutely stunning set.<br />I have had my set for two weeks now and I am blown away with the picture quality.<br />You need to take you time and set it up properly to get the best out of it.<br />I started in picture mode 2 and set contrast to 49, brightness 54, colour 33, tint 00, sharpness 00, scan mode natural, dnr auto.<br />Try starting in picture mode 2 then make your adjustments then try picture mode 3 and after making your adjustments in that mode see which looks best to you.<br />I personally think picture mode 2 looks best after adjustments are made what do you think? <br />Have you read the excellent reviews in What Video & TV and Home Cinema Choice?<br /> <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Sorry Markster, I meant to say in my previous post that you should have received your speakers packed in the same box as the TV.<br />Did you unpack the TV or did the deliverymen unpack it, if they did they probably did not realise that there were speakers inside?<br />Cheers,Paul

Although I've had my TV for a couple of months now and I too didn't receive any speakers when the set was delivered from John Lewis. When I complained, I was originally told by John Lewis that the speakers were an optional extra! After some persistence though, Toshiba apparently admitted that they were aware of a batch of TVs that had been sent out without the speakers included and John Lewis arranged for some to be mailed to me directly - received them within 3-4 days (I'm surprised this is still happening!)

I would be interested to know what you think of the speakers when you get them. They do a reasonable job, but I've wondered whether it is worth upgrading them (fronts particularly), although I don't want to buy a separate amp, so I'm not sure whether there would be a significant improvement from just speakers. Anyone else changed speakers without using separate amp?

At present the only thing I have bought is a pair of silver/grey mini speaker stands placed on either side of the TV to improve the stereo separation, I previously had the front speakers wedged into the cabinet.

So i am not the only one with missing speakers <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> .

I really have my doubts as to the quality of the speakers that are going to come with it.<br />One of my neighbours has a separate amp and speakers with a sony 32" and it sounds superb, i really don't see how those free little toshiba speakers can do the set justice, but i am holding off making a decision until i have actually heard them.

In regard to plugging other speakers directly into the tv i don't think this is really an option because it is only as good as the amp in the tv (perhaps someone else can confirm) unfortunately i think a separate amp or receiver is a necessary requirement.

One of the reviews i saw recently said the sound on the tosh wasn't as good as the hitachi, but this didn't concern me as i knew picture quality was the most inportant in the set itself because i knew you could always upgrade the sound later if need be.

I will let you know as soon as my toshiba speakers arrive and what my thoughts are although at this moment I am leaning to the idea of separates.<br />I have spent all that money on a great picture tv set and 210e dvd player i want to make sure the sound doesn't let it down.

To be quite honest you will get a better sound effects with an external amp and the speakers hooked up to it.<br />I few years ago I went to a HI FI exhibition show. They were displaying TVs with its own internal amps. The sound effects were no where close to a TV pipe through an external amp. The sound was very dynamic and it had depth.

You have to remember that an external amp main job is to amplifer and proccess sound to give you, the key word flexiblity which you may not get with an internal amp.

Therefore I reckon you are better off getting an external amp if you can afford it.

Vectraone, sound can, and will sound a lot better with higher quality speakers - without having to use an amp!

I got the Hitachi 32WF810 Dolby Digital/DTS tv recently, supplied speakers were sh*te!

I wanted to avoid using a seperate amp at all costs. I find a one box solution much better because I don't have the lounge cluttered up, and I have just one volume control - the tv!

The speakers rattled and distorted like fcuk, and so I asked for advice. Was my problem simply because of my low-ish power from the telly or cos it's a poorer quality amp built in to the set?

Got a pair of Mission m7ds rear speakers from HifiBitz £139 (list £179) can not beleive the difference! I have the 'Close Encouters' dvd, which has an awsome demo of DD and DTS. Volume turned up full whack sounds class!

And the best bit was that these speakers have just become available in silver.

I really can't recommend them enough - sound fantastic, look smart, and are easily sited.

Go buy.

you sure can. I'm using the small tosh speakers as the fronts and the rears are bookshelf B&W 601S2's that were already mounted on the rear wall and also used for my HiFi as well. Both sets of speakers are 8ohm so no problems (as long as I don't play the stereo and TV at the same time!). I'm sure this is not a perfect match but as I want decent sound not perfect sound, then i accept that. Anyway, the bride wants to keep the lounge as a lounge and not some sort of low budget cinema room, so extra speakers at the rear were a definite no no.

I'm still not sure whether to just upgrade the fronts without an amp and if so what the options are (I definitely don't want an external amp, like Simple, another piece of kit is just one piece too many). The Missions look good and are certainly recommended by Simple but the fronts only come in wood effect or black. I will only buy silver speakers for the fronts (I imagine anything else would just look odd and detract from the looks of the TV). Anyone any ideas?

I am considering the mission m73 fronts and and m7ds for rears.<br />Although for the same reasons as yourself i don't really want a separate amp, however I presumed this was a requirement?.

Can anyone advise me on how good the sound is with just the internal speakers? I am looking for a replacement for my Panny PG30. I already have the surround system so I wont need any external speakers.

Yes it works fine without the external speakers if you need to listen to it this way.<br />(Just like i am having to as toshiba forgot to pack my external speakers!! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Indeed, the missions are plugged directly into the tv!

Not sure what the spec on your set is, but mine is 15w + 15w front, 15w centre, 15w + 15w rear and 25w sub (RMS figures).

I use the tv's internal speakers for the front, centre and sub.

I mounted the m7ds's upside down on the rear wall and concealed the cable. Visitors to the house thought they were uplighters!

Well smart.

NB Missions are 8ohm, so imagine will suit most equipment.

what do you make of the size of those M7DS rears?.

I saw them in a magazine and thought they will do fine.<br />I then went to my local shop recently and saw them!!!. They are 3 times the size I thought they were!!!.

Are you sure they were the m7ds? Mission do two other similar type speakers, the 77ds and the 70ds which are more bulky.

Granted, the m7ds are maybe twice the size overall of conventional cheap/nasty surrounds, but they are incredabley slim, considering they incorporate 2x 110mm (4.5") bass drivers and 2x tweeters.

Like I said, me, and more importantly the wife find them unobtrusive in the way they are designed and the way I have mounted them.

Bearing in mind their shape and the slim bipole design, it is a marvel that these speakers can sound as good, maybe better, than conventional square wooden hifi speakers five times the size!

I find that Mission's claim that the bipole design makes them particularly suitable for DD and DTS does indeed hold true.

If you're still not sure, see if you can get your hifi shop to let you try them at home for yourelf - and if not satisfied, obtain a refund.

I did this. Bought the speakers locally and paid £179. Loved them, but still took them back, cos I could get them £40 cheaper and in silver from HifiBitz.
