Panasonic TX32PD50 vs Sony KV32HX15

Hi,

Im currently torn between these two TV's.

I know the Panny looks far better spec-wise, but my current Tv is a Panasonic TX28PS12 and the 100Hz isn't brilliant.

With my current Panny I get lots of vertical flicker, enabling flicker reduction in the setup menu solves this flicker but then I get motion artifacts and other strange processing anomalies (that drive me mad) so that's no good.

Does the PD50 fix these issues? or am I better off just getting the Sony model which is 50Hz?

P.S. Are there any other decent alternatives?

The pd range are fantastic with dvd replay.For a very nuetral picture check out the toshiba zp46/48.

how do you mean nuetral picture? a good all-rounder??

I will be using mainly for dvd playback and games consoles.

Used mainly for dvd and gaming,i personally would go for the panasonic.Picture definition is unrivalled.

Oh you make it sound so good.

Does the Panasonic support any HDTV modes? you know like 480P/720P/1080i that sort of thing?

Does it suffer very badly from motion artifacts? How about flicker on static menus such as dvd movie menus?

Cheers, as you realise these tv's are a big investment and i want to be sure before splashing out my hard earned wonga.

100 htz tvs always produce some degree of proccessing noise.Mainly it has to be said from sky who compress feeds to a minimum.My advice is to get some demos of a few sets.As everyone has there own view on what is best,be it right or wrong.Saying that if was my hard earned ,i would have the panasonic,sound slike it suits your needs .

spocktra is right....when it comes to dvd the pd range is unrivalled.

The pd range tubes are capable of HD but panasonic has set that feature off for some reason....but you can get HD via modification though.

I think I will go for the Panny then.

oh by the way, is there a difference between the TX32PD50 and TX32PD50C other than about £400-500?

I think the "C" simply denotes that it comes with the cabinet...

The SOny is £540 and Panasonic £635.

I have the 36" PD50 and have never noticed any motion artifacts or flicker on static menus.
Watching through a Freeview box the picture is excellent.

big monkeh I do not know alot about modification but I have heard that you can modificate the pd range......it is possible yes but it must cost a bit.
If I were you I would wait for the new pd and hope panny make that one HD ready, coz the jvc version of the same pd tube has HD and its the same tube ( SR ).

I'll give you the heads up on the HX15 set, it suffers from the light smear problem that some sony tv sets suffer from. Basically a bright object in a dark scene will throw up light anomalties on the screen that appear for only a split second then disappear or the object will have a glowing/halo effect. I returned a set for this reason so it is a problem. Might be best to risk the panasonic set but then my experience with panasonic sets is the bad geometry so i stay well clear. Its no teasy buying a widescreen tv, i am starting to get fed up returning tvs. So far the best is Toshiba but then those sets have their own issues but nothing that would lead to you returning it.

EVERY 100Hz tv produces artifacts with interlaced material...

so while they are perfect with DVDs they can be horrible with games...

If I was you I'd go with a 50Hz TV, good with DVDs, excellent with games

Thanks for the feedback FlyingBig, I guess the HX15 is off my list then.

My current Panasonic is pretty good geometry wise so long as you turn the contrast down (it's quite high as standard).

I dunno what to do now though...

geese when does the new PD range come out? you say the JVC equivalent has HDTV do you mean the JVC HV32D40?? it is almost the same price as the Panny what are peoples opinons on it? Also what do Toshiba have to offer within my range?

The new Xbox console is out later this year so I want one that will do it justice.

Your wise taking my advice if you want to buy a tv that works as perfect as you expect for the money your paying. Do bear in mind that the issue i mentioned with the hx15 is not present on all sony tvs but just on that model for whatever reason but just be wary of it when testing out any tv. I'm struggling like you to find a good widescreen tv and i am very close to giving up on the CRT range and going for DLP tv or dare i say it Plasma or LCD. At least with this range you get rid of some of the issues you only get when a CRT tube is involved.

In another forum.....one did it with pd30 and its also mentioned in one of the reviews with pd30 at home cinema hardware.
I dont have the link to that other forum anymore though but the guy said it was a sucsses and worked just great.

Some say this sommer and some say shortly after ( my uncle said anyway).
And yes Im talking about D40 but its called something else here in Denmark, the one with DIST and HD and all that.......I think its a great tv but I dont its pictures is of the same caliber as pd range when it comes to dvd.

BTW the PD30 is sold in Japan as an HDTV and the US version (34WX53) is identical . So it must be that HD is disabled in the firmware of European versions of this set.
