i'm getting a 28" widescreen tv and wondered if anyone has had problems with any of these sets, i'm aware of the previous posts about the problems of the philips but presume that they can be overcome.

panasonic TX28PK3, toshiba 28ZO5, philips 28PW6515, SON-KV28FX20S, toshiba 28ZD06B 100HZ

I'll be mainly using it for watching football, action films and DVD rgb <br />- is 100Hz really benificial (toshiba 28ZD06B) - does smearing/shadowing occur.<br />Sound is not so important as i'll be using an av amplifier.

are sony generally the best or just typicaly more expensive, tau or wega - whats the difference?

I have little experience of widescreen tvs and cannot find any reviews of these tvs so any help/advice/insights would be most welcome.

I'm after a new set too. I have been considering<br />the new toshiba 32ZP18P as it takes up the same<br />space (width) as most 28inch sets <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

But then I read this bulliten board and I'm not so sure know <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0"> Just what is the fix?

I had a Sony 28FX60 which went back as it had some<br />bad destortion and colouring in the left bottom corner. I then tried the Wharfdale M8 from<br />Tesco. And now that's gone back after it wouldn't come on anymore. I'm not going with a cheap set again. The picture was really good on the sony.

I am also loking for a 28"<br />The current issue of What Hifi gave the Philips 28PW6305 quite a good review when compared to the more expensive Sony28LS35. I wanted a flat screen and thought the Philips 28PW6515 might be the answer until I saw the posts here. What a nightmare that seemed to be - is it sorted yet??<br />I'm more confused than ever now! <br />I'd really appreciate any info' from anyone who has bought a 28" recently - or anyone else in the know - and is prepared to recommend their buy!!<br />Many thanks!!

Very happy with the Philips 6503 apart from the lack of auto-switching, but you can't have everything in this price range. By the way i know that you can buy the philips for 399 inc stand from Hi-Spek and probably cheaper elsewhere. I paid 498 for mine from Comet (I know I know, but i couldn't be arsed waiting) with the 571 i think Philips Nicam video with Easylink. But all in all I would highly recommend it.

I've got the toshiba 32ZP18 and everyone here is very pleased with it. I think people on this forum who have bought it are generally very pleased with their choice. Where a problem arises it seems it is often sorted out by changing the settings. Some sets may have to be returned but I don't think the numbers are unusually high compared with other brands, and maybe lower than most. I don't think you should conclude from the comments on this forum that there is a problem with the set. We just like tweaking things. It is stunning on or off.

I agree with Firstagent about the Tosh ZP18 - I reckon most people are over the moon with them as am I with my 36 incher - still no doubts that I made the right decision.

I had the 32" 6515 and had numerous problems with a couple of different sets which you may have read about here - I wouldn't be recomending Philips in a hurry at the moment!

Sony (from experience) are over priced for what they are - no better than Tosh but you end up paying more (generally).

Panasonics - sorry, no experience of them.

One thing's for sure, I don't envy you trying to decide, one minute you're edging towards a particular model, then you reasd something that slags it off and oh no, you change your mind and on it goes - glad I won't be there again for a while.

My main piece of advice to anybody buying a widescreen TV is to make sure you buy it from somebody who's going to give you the aftersales back up - no mater which set you choose, there's a fair to middling chance that you'll need to use it! Take as much recomendation about the retailer as the set its self.

I agree my 36" ZP18 Tosh is superb.<br />When we have family friends or visitors round they are totally mesmerised by the picture quality.
