Hi people,

about to buy this set and noticed a few old posts about geometry problems on the (concave bulge on left of display in 4:3 mode). Have many people noticed this, and if so have any of you had luck in getting engineers to sort it out?

I have got the 32" version and there is a geometry problem on the left on 4:3 broadcasts.

Personally I do not find it that much of a problem though and it is the only minor fault on a otherwise brilliant TV.

If anyone out there knows how to get into the sevice menu on this TV then can you let me know because I would like to sort this out myself.

I have the AV28WFX1 (we have slightly different models over here in Spain) this has the geometry problem you mentioned in 4:3 mode.

Unfortunately, there is no-one locally that can sort it out for me.

I can access the Service menus, but again no-one knows what settings do what. I´m a bit loathed to have a go myself just in case i knacker it!

The only thing i can suggest is get an engineer out, presuming that JVC have one in your area. Or a calibration specialist.

Have any of you noticed a gap were the plastic covering fits to the screen above the jvc badge my tv is the 32ft1 and its the 2nd one ive had as the 1st one was returned because this gap was present but when i received the 2nd one it had the same problem.Its very noticable before putting the tv on the stand once on the stand its not as noticable.As its not performance related i dont really want to change it again as Im most impressed with the piture and sound.Has any one else expereinced this I have noticed it on the high street with other jvc models.<br />thanks.

I have the 32WFT1, delivered 2 weeks ago.

It had a concave left edge on 4:3 and 14:9. An engineer managed to get this almost straight, which was acceptable, but there was still a problem with the bottom right corner on the verticals. The horizontals are also poor, with a "smile" at the top and a "frown" at the bottom.<br /> I have arranged for a replacement to be delivered as a result.

In answer to the other problem that SAC-NORAD <br />has noticed, I do not have that problem with my set.

Overall it is an excellent TV, really amazing picture with DVD and a good design aesthetically as well. I just want good geometry !!!

Oh, the joys of CRT TVs.

I had geometry problems on my 24" JVC (WT2 chassis). I've been in the service menu and they are greatly improved, but aren't (will never be) perfect. And the shape of the picture changes as it gets brighter or darker.

I'm living with it because the TV was relatively inexpensive and it's only my secondary display device - used mainly for regular TV - news etc.

One day (soon, hopefully) our 60-year(?) marriage to CRTs will end and we'll all be dashing down to our local electronics store and buying TVs which:

1) are based on some flat panel technology - eg LCD or Plasma) - which by then is capable of general image quality on a par with current CRTs - but without any geometry, regulation or convergence issues)

2) have a 16x9 aspect ratio

3) have an integral digital tuner (with broadcast signals of enough strength and bandwidth to do away with compression and interference artefacts).

OK I had a go at getting the geometry right on my TV last night.

The service menu is actually easy to use and I managed to get the left and right edges of the picture on a 4:3 broadcast fairly straight.

Unfortunately as LV426 has said you will get problems with CRT's as the broadcast image varies between light and dark.

LV426, I also can not wait for the day when we finally get rid of CRT's for cheap flat panels of some kind. I do not think it will be Plasma or LCD though because of the low yield rate they have when producing them. I think the future may well be plastic screens using light emitting polymer - as these will be cheap to make.

Hi IAN C could you please let me know which part of the service menu sorts the geometry out.As Id like to see if I can reduce the curves on 4.3 and 16.9 as its evident clearly on teletext its not that bad but Im sure it could be improved on with out the hassles of waiting for an engineer.<br />thanks in advance

Hi SAC-NORAD, sorry that I have not replied sooner, works been a bit busy.

OK go into the service menu and then option 4. This is the part with all the screen geometry. You will have to scroll through the various options, there is about 16 in total, but from what I can remember it is only the first 8 that have any real effect.

Anyway have a play with it, it will not save your setting until you press the OK button. If you do not have any luck with the geometry then I will have a look on my TV and let you know exactly what I did.

PS as a word of caution note down all the settings before you start playing around so you can always get back to where you started from

The "smile" and "frown" problems will most likely be fixed by adjusting "pin cushion" if such a setting is named in the service menu.

Use "BOW" if there is one first to make sure the vertical and horizontal lines in the middle are straight firts. The Pincusion for the sides/top/bottom.

(SAC-NORAD)Ian C I went into the service menu the other day after writing everything down.You were right it is easy to use<br />Thanks for the reply though.<br />Managed to slightly improve the geometry also I lessoned the very faint bands which are apparant on my set when I look extremly close at the screen at the top left and right on full screen mode when watching a R2 dvd or film on TV.I only get these when watching a PAL signal they are not present when useing NTSC.In doing so I probly stretched the picture ratio but its marginal I set everything on the 4th part of the service menu to +0 for PAL on the full screen mode.
