Flicking on and off??

I could not think of a good heading of how to describe this problem. So unless someone can understand this it is hard to describe.
I have a Sony 32" crt, with the Denon 550 dvd/amp.
When watching a dvd every now and then the screen flicks from widescreen to full screen and back again very quickly, now this might happen once in the course of a film, sometimes it will do it more often and sometimes not at all. I am not sure if it does it at the same place in a film, there does not seem to be a pattern.
Everyone in the house looks at me when this happens, expecting me fix things, and all I can do is shrug my shoulders... can someone please help me?

Yes, Dave, I know the feeling!

Provided it's not the same DVD, it looks as if you have a loose connection.

(Sorry, I mean the system, of course. )

Favourite would be the Scart between the DVD Player and the TV, which carries the signal to tell the TV to switch to widescreen.

Have a good wiggle and see if you can provoke it.

If so, try another Scart lead.

Good luck.

Hi, just a thought. Does it do it in the same place on the same DVD every time ? if it does then maybe your tv is set into some sort of auto format detect mode ? (often triggered by black information near the top of the screen). If so make sure (when you're playing DVDs) that the tv is set to a fixed widescreen mode only. Regards, yt.

Hi
If you look at your instruction book, go to the menu-there are three settings
Auto format ON/FULL/OFF - you need to select off.

Thanks Guys... I have indeed set the Auto Format setting to off so we will see how it goes now. I had brought two Ixos scart leads, so unless it is the scart connector on the TV of DVD I hope it is not the leads as they should be good quality. Lets hope that it is the Auto Format setting.... and of course if it is now ok, dad can have that cool " I fixed it " look on his face.... with a little help from his forum friends
