Finally took the plunge and took delivery of a 32”sony tv package. The price included dvd player, video, installation and a 5 year guarantee. This seemed excellent value considering some places were selling the tv alone for the amount I paid - some even more! After the geezer who installed it and his mute mate left, I settled down to check out the picture in a more relaxed atmosphere. It soon became apparent there is a red (sometimes green and yellow) glow in the top left corner. I am also disappointed at the size compared to my other six year old 33 inch 4:3 crt grundig, which seems massive in comparison. So I’m miffed about the size and find I have an unwelcome glow emanating from part of the screen.
Rang the shop where I bought the package and explained the problem (not mentioning my disappointment with the size) and was asked whether I had a speaker near it. I don’t. The upshot is, its being looked at on Friday and I’m wondering whether I could ask for – and get - my money back? BTW, another niggle is that the guy who installed it said that he couldn’t set it up as he expected as he thought the output from my sky box wasn’t working properly. To be honest I haven’t a clue about the simplest aspects of technical details so took him at his word on this. This was a major purchase for me and though the actual picture is fine I have to say I much prefer the 4:3 ratio on my old tv than widescreen tv’s. OK the discoloration in the corner may be due to some electro magnetic interfernece that it picked up in transit. With a screen this size it will have an automatic degausing coil and after a few times swithed on and off it may clear by itself. You know when the coil is working as it will make a bassey ping noise when the tv is switched on.
If you have sky digital then in the user menu picture settings you should set it to 16:9 wide mode and RGB out. Make sure that the scart lead runing from the sky box to the tv is pluged in to the scart on the tv that will take an rgb signal. If you dont have a scart connection and are just using an arial lead, GO GET A SCART .
I can understand that you may be a bit disapointed with the size compared to your old tv, but did you see one before you bought it?

The 'splodge' disappeared as you predicted and i got the guy who was going to look at this to look into a few other difficulties i was having - which he should've done first time round. Now everythings working fine and i've had a few days to get over my initial disappointment have come to the conclusion that it'll stay. Having said that i still prefer my old (and on its way out) 4:3 tv but 'spose i've got to move with the times. Thanks for your help
