The Phily 32" 9509 has landed

I've taken delivery of a new 32" 9509, and I have to say that due to the amount of stick this set was receiving on this forum, befeore it arrived, I was worried that I'd ordered a donkey instead of a race horse.

Well.......... I fired her up and connected her to my Blueyonder cable box and Panny HT520 DVD system and prayed..........God was obviously listening.

I spent five minutes setting the box to my idea of visual perfection, and then I did it...........I span 'Attack of the Clones' and skipped to the final battle scene. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!! MIND BLOWING!!!!!!!!!

It was like the whole scene was happening right there in my room. But I think the best way to explain just how good the picture is...........I called my girlfriend into the room. Now, she has no idea of AV kit, no interest in any of it, and to top it off, hates anything to do with Star Wars. Well, she walked in and looked at the "new telly". It was like she had contracted turretts syndrome or somethin'. This Forum wont allow me to quote her, but let's say she was impressed. She even sat down to watch the battle scene unfold. "It's like that little green man is in the room with us" she uttered. She then spent 15 minutes playing clips of her films, just to see how good THEY looked.
Need I say more?

As for white lines in the centre of the screen, I looked real hard and could not fault the picture. The only trace of any fault was when my XBox was plugged in via the composite scart and played Pro Evo 4. Then, if you looked REAL hard, you could make out a very faint white line in the center of the picture. But, you had to LOOK for it. Tried some other games, and had no chance of seeing any line.

Bottom line?........This set ROCKS! Seriously. You will not find a better set....Anywhere. Do not be put off by others scare mungering. They must be REALLY picky, cus people state that I'm hard to please when it comes to AV. Go make your own mind up.

P.S.....Would also be interested in anyone who has got this set and has used the Digital Video Essentials DVD to set it up. What are your settings?

The Philips 9509 seems to be good for DVD's, (as seen in shop), but how is it for normal TV viewing and especially fast moving sports like football.

This is difficult to see in shops because they run all TV's through one aerial and don't normally have any sport on - at least when I visit.

Hi,

I have had my 9509 for nearly a week now and am still struggling to get a sharp picture on it. I have a Sky box plugged in through RGB scart through my Sony DVD recorder, also set to RGB scart. I don't have any of the white lines or other problems some people have reported, it's just that the quality of the picture just doesn't seem right. The best I've got is by turning off all the fancy stuff and sticking with the 100mhz digital scan mode.

It's reassuring that you are so pleased with your set so I'm hoping I just need to tinker some more - could you post your picture settings please.

Thanks,

Jonathan

I have a blueyonder cable box running to one of the RGB scart inputs and am VERY happy with the picture. Have watched some footy on it and if you REALLY look, the set can have a VERY faint line that shows up in the centre of the screen when displaying large areas of green. However, this doesn't show up during DVDs and normal shows. Only during lawn sports. And then only if you look for it. So.........Do you watch loads of footy etc, or do you mainly watch non sport shows and DVDs? It may even be the way I have set up the screen. For me, the quality of this TVs screen 99.9999% of the time vastly outways any hardly noticeable line during the odd footy game. All other fast paced action leaves you gasping in awe.....DVDs, XBox, Formula 1, Action Films and Music Videos, it's ALL you'll ever need.
