I am looking for a 32" tv with component inputs that will accept pal and ntsc progressive from both DVD and XBOX.The tv will also be used with sky+. The toshiba seems to be getting good reviews but the only place I can get to see it is currys and there set up is rubbish, crappy analogue pics. I have not seen the pd50 yet and am also wondering if it has the problems that plagued the pd30. Any input from people who have either of these tv's would be greatly appreciated.

pauldarrington. I got the pd50 and there is absolutly nothing wrong with it.
Havent seen any shimmering and all that.The pQ is super sharp and detailed.

People here tend to strongly favour one brand or the other and you will find many posts of problems about both TVs (well for the pd30 rather than pd50) as well as many people replying saying they have had no problems with their own.

The best thing to do is to get a demonstration of the 2 sets but this can be difficult to do - I was lucky and had a local TV shop (lived in bristol at the time) that was willing to work for my money and allowed me to do a side by side comparison. Personally I felt the Panny had a better picture than the tosh and as I was intending to get my AV amp I had no interest in sound quality. I have had the set for a year(ish) now and could give it nothing but praise.

I agree with Astaroth's advice, try and have a good look at both in a reputable dealer if you can, my own recommendation is the Toshiba 32Zp48 - astonishingly good picture. Regards, yt.

So Paul, which one did you get in the end? My choice, like many people has come down to Tosh 32ZP48 and Panasonic 32PD50.

Somebody help make my mind up!!!

I think it would first be fair to say that now days it is impossible to buy a tv that does not have one problem or another. Anyway in the end i got a 32pd50 and i am very happy with it. It is my second as the first buzzed had terrible geometry and had strange interference lines runnig across the screen. The one i have now has good geometry, no interference but it has a slight buzz but this can only be heard when there is no sound coming from the tv, so not really a problem. The picture is very good with sky and excellent with dvd and consoles. Dvd and consoles running in progressive scan look great. I looked at the toshiba but after spending some time with it i always thought the colours ie skin tones looked off. So like many people i have a tv that buzzes but otherwise is excellent so i will keep it because if swapped i would probably get something far worse.

Is the Tosh a lot smaller though (width) than the Panasonic! Sometimes this is a key factor for a lot of people that have small living rooms!

The width is only 795mm, very slim and the black surround looks a lot nicer than the tosh.

After owning the pd30 i will never gett another pana tv.

I dont own either but I think I prefere the Tosh but again we all have our different views!
