Free tube from Philips, food for thoughts

Every year to the day my 32PW9527 I bought in Nov 2002 with a 1 year warranty needs a new CRT (second one). after a nice letter to Philips they've decided to send a new tube for free and I will only pay for the labour.

Looking forward for a free new tube in November 2005...........

I'd want to know WHY it requires a new tube every year or so!

Yes I know but my contract is with the retailer and Philips is not legally obliged to do anything, I was thinking to ask the retailer to pay for the labour.

What happens to the tube?

Does it simply stop working? Explain what happens and I'll see what I can find out.

Basically the tv would switch itself off with only the on/off button flashing red. When the engineer opened the set he just probed around thinking about a short circuit of some kind but when tapping gently the rear of the tube it would cause the set to switch off. At first it would happen every 90 min more or less and by the time the engineer arrived it was every 15 min.
